Travelling with animals

When your pets travel with you

Most airlines transport lightweight dogs and cats (less than 5 kilograms) in the aircraft cabin. Heavier animals, and pets such as birds, guinea pigs or rabbits, may only be transported in the hold.

Registering
If you want to take your pet with you, you have to register it well in time and in writing at your travel office.

Transport containers
Animal transport containers for pets must generally be procured by the traveller. In Bremen, these can be purchased for dogs and cats from Lufthansa, for example, Tel. +49 (0) 421 53 61 426/ 27 (Fax +49 (0) 421 - 53 61451).

Fares
Fares vary from one airline to another. Please address your enquiries to the airline or your travel agency.

Check-in
Animals are normally checked in at the same time as passengers, without extra waiting.

Immigration rules in the destination country
Please observe the applicable immigration regulations in your destination country.

The animal protection organisation PETA has done some in-depth thinking about flying with animals. For more information, please follow the link  www.peta.de/web/flugreisen_mit.1389.html
